I'm up in Wisconsin and it's almost October over here. (well, duh, that's anywhere in the world). The children don't need a coat everyda yet and can still go out in summer clothing. I think it's going to be a long Indian summer. If it were average or short, it would be cold at least every other day. But since it's been hot for the past few days, I consider it long. Good luck!

Opt for an Indian Summer This Year

Choosing a summer holiday destination can be very difficult; after all, there are so many places to go, and so much to see that the holiday market can become a very confusing and overwhelming place for any consumer. But with the summer holidays just around the corner, more and more people are beginning to think of where they should go this year, and if you're one of them and you don't want to go for the same old European holiday that you've done a million times before, there is an answer, and that answer is India.

 

Why India?

 

Well, India may not be as popular with foreign tourists as it was during the 60s and 70s, but it's still maintained a cult status as a must-see holiday destination, thanks to the popularity of the Taj Mahal in Agra, the India Gate in Delhi and the Amber For in Amber, just outside of Jaipur. There is so much to see and do in India that some people take longer holidays or even months to travel around this beautiful and diverse sub-continent. But if you have two weeks, then it also makes for a great place to explore during that time, it's just best to concentrate on one part of India, such as the north, Delhi, Shimla, Pushkar or the South, Goa, Kerala or Tamil Nadu.

 

What can I do in India?

 

Just about anything you want, within reason. You can go sightseeing, visit temples, places of interest, and eat delicious and authentic Indian curry, which will be an absolute highlight of your stay. While there may be no traveller who will manage to avoid the dreaded ‘Delhi Belly' there are ways to avoid it, such as drinking bottled water, avoiding eating meat wherever possible and making sure you dine in reputable establishments. If you do get this affliction, don't worry, it will only last a day or two, and then you can start your journey all over again.

 

What Will I need?

 

Before you go it is paramount that you get the necessary jags and malaria medication before you go. The jags you need will vary depending on where in India you are going, but don't take the chance and assume that you won't need them. Malaria medications is an absolute must, and remember that it is a very small inconvenience to take, especially when compared to the effects of this illness. A holiday in India is a fantastic treat for all ages, but make sure that you're well prepared for a completely different holiday.
