were literally living in squalor in tents along the street. Isn't there anything that can be done to help these people? Must we accept poverty and addiction to be out of our hands as a community?

The conservative thought......offer them health care, an education, a job and if they don't want it....let them be.

The Liberal approach,,,,,,,Give them food, shelter, health care and money. Keep giving so they don't have to improve themselves. Its called the tender trap.
Killing some one with kindness is still killing them.

Rush Tickets - Rush Rock Doc Wins Tribeca Award

One of the oldest debates in rock is over Rush—and, specifically, whether they belong in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame or not. Fans will have to keep waiting to see if they ever make it in there, but in the meantime, they can be appeased by the fact that, as always, crowds seem to love them.

In fact, they loved them so much that it earned a movie about them an award. Recently, the Tribeca Film Festival gave the directors of a Rush documentary a fan favorite award, giving them $25,000 - a hefty sum that should help offset some of the costs of the film.

The documentary, titled Rush: Behind the Lighted Stage, is drawing a lot of buzz for two main reasons. The first is simple: There has never been a major rock doc on Rush before. The band has long been plagued by negative sentiments from critics despite having a large and enthusiastic cult following. But with many younger critics revising the public opinion on the band, the time is ripe for a reckoning of the band's many musical achievements, from "2112" to "Moving Pictures" and beyond.

The other reason is that the documentary is just that good. The team behind it includes filmmakers Sam Dunn and Scott McFayden, who already have a reputation for excellence after producing rock docs on metal bands, including (2005) Metal: A Headbanger's Journey and 2009's Iron Maiden: Flight 666. A Rush doc is the perfect quill in their hat, and there are a lot of celebrity guests who were willing to speak about the band's importance, including comedian Jack Black (also known as a musician in Tenacious D) and Billy Corgan of the Smashing Pumpkins. The list of interviewees goes on and on: Musician Les Claypool, Trent Reznor of Nine Inch Nails, Kirk Hammet of Metallica, Gene Simmons of KISS, and Sebastian Bach of Skid Row are also featured in the film.

The documentary Rush: Behind the Lighted Stage has garnered a lot of attention because of the extremely rare footage that shows a young trio of musicians just starting out. That includes seeing Rush performing in high school gyms before they manage to start playing rock clubs and, much farther down the road, selling out stadiums. Because the movie gives such an epic overview of the band's history, it makes it perfect for any Rush fan who has ever felt like the band hasn't gotten its due.

Of course, the fact that a Rush documentary is coming out is just one of the many acknowledgements by the public that this is a band that matters. In the past few years, everyone from faux-talking head Stephen Colbert to the makers of I Love You, Man, a 2009 buddy comedy, have turned on younger audiences to the sheer awesomeness of Rush. It looks as if they are finally getting the audience they deserve.
